Former Georgia Tech standout player Matt Cozad visits the Excel drills to speak to the kids and work out with the players

On October 14th, 2008, former Georgia Tech player, Matt Cozad visited Tennis Dynamics. Matt spoke to the kids in the Excel group and then participated in the drills. He spoke to the kids about his time at Georgia Tech playing tennis and growing up as a junior in the tennis- tough state of Florida.
Matt gave advice to the Excel kids by saying he hope the kids would "really try to get the most out of their time and practice sessions". This was something he learned when he was in college at Georgia Tech and he wishes he had appreciated earlier as a junior player. He felt in order to get the most out of each practice the "players needed to practice with a purpose."

In 1995 Matt went to Georgia Tech, ranked #25 in the United States Boy’s Singles 18’s and #5 in Florida Boy’s 18’s. He was awarded a four year scholarship to play tennis for the Yellow Jackets. In 1997, he was #3 Single’s Flight Champion in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and #2 Doubles Flight Champion. He was awarded the Region II Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award in 1998. He was selected to the all ACC Men’s Tennis Team in 1999. He is one of the more fundamentally solid players I have seen play the game.
Matt currently still lives in Atlanta and plays tennis in the local league. He works for the Cintas Corporation in Atlanta. |
