Learning from Your Losses

Let me bring to everyone's attention the fact that there are some great match charting applications for the iPhone for players, coaches and parents to use to chart their matches. These new applications will tell you where your errors are coming from on the court and what you need to work on in your practices. You can get these applications directly from the iTunes library or you can go to their respective sites and navigate from there.

I believe right now the Trakker Pro is one of the best and each one of these is improving over time with subsequent updates.

Learning what you can from your errors can make a huge difference what you emphasize out on the practice courts. When you win the areas where you made errors are often neglected and when you lose you are often so down in the dumps you want to forget about the mistakes.

Someone once told me, “The biggest mistakes in life are those you learn absolutely nothing from.” This can be true in tennis just as it is in life.

Examine your mistakes after the match is over. It will force you to focus on those areas where you need to improve. Some might mistake this idea as being too focused on the negative aspects of your game. However, as one coach I learned from once said, “We learn from trial and error and not from trial and rightness!”.

By finding out your strengths and weaknesses you learn how to improve your game. By having a friend, parent or coach keep some statistics players can learn a great deal about how to go forward with their games. So check out the new applications for tennis on iTunes.
